Elle Driver clenches her fist and hits Beatrix hard in the face. Blood drops from her nose and onto the once white wedding dress. “You deserve this, bitch!” Elle spits, not able to contain her hate.
How often did she hear Bill swoon over Beatrix Kiddo’s beauty, how wonderful and skilled she is?
As if she didn’t know that herself.
She hated Beatrix for being everybody’s darling, for drawing the attention of every man to her … for choosing Bill over Elle.
In her head she repeatedly screams: “Why? Why did you leave me behind? Why didn’t you take me with you?”
But her mouth yells insults and curses to drown the hurtful thoughts. If she concentrates enough on her hate, maybe Elle can forget the pain of rejection, of the fact that Beatrix was rather everybody’s darling than hers.
